iRGENT project launching !

Here we go! iRGENT project lauching!

The iRGENT Project is the first research project focusing on rural gentrification in an international comparative perspective.

As one of the few selected projects of the 2013 ORA + program (Open Research Area Plus for the social sciences), it is funded for three years (2014-2017) through an international partnership between the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR France), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC UK) and the National Science Foundation (NSF USA).

The project got underway with meetings held in Limoges on the 6th and 7th of October, followed by a research fieldtrip in the Sarlat area in Dordogne, one of the four French study areas to be investigated.

The two days of meetings allowed, among other things, for confirmation of the work programme (definition of research assistant (postdoc) job profiles, planning of papers to be presented in symposiums and diverse international conferences, etc.).

The fieldwork around Sarlat permitted the English and French teams to study an example of French rural gentrification. Interviews with key local actors and residents validated the relevancy of this area as a case study. This immersion of the British researchers in the Perigord countryside was an enriching scientific experience and one that will help inform cross-national comparisons.
